The Urgency Levels of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere are pushing our planet toward a tipping point, where the change toward extremely hot conditions is near inevitable with the unleashing of massive feedback mechanisms of increased greenhouse gas emissions. The record Arctic ice melt of 2007, which was repeated in 2008, shows that we are moving far faster than the worst climate models, and that we must take immediate, urgent action to slash emissions now. The massive number of intense hurricanes and freak storms that hit the United States nearly every week are a contributing factor to the economic crisis our nation now faces. Far from causing economic hardship, taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions is the number one way to stimulate our economy. Another large part of the economic collapse is that far too much money has gone to industries like coal which by their nature should be extinct. Had those resources gone toward efficiency, solar, wind, geothermal, waste methane and other renewable energy production, we would be much better along in both safeguarding our economy and our life support system: the environment. We must demand strong federal action immediately, before it is too late. Adventure through the horrors of climate change in the Arctic
Come on an expedition through the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge by foot and raft with author and film maker Chad Kister. Learn about how climate change is hammering the Arctic with drastic impacts like melting permafrost, receding glaciers, drastic reduction in Arctic ice, shorelines crumbling into the sea and declines in wildlife and subsistence hunting by native peoples.
Show support for local, state and federal efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by bringing the front line of climate change to your town. With firsthand accounts of the devastating impacts in the Arctic, you can educate people and get media attention for the immediate need for federal legislation to slash greenhouse gas emissions with mandatory measure.
The Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign is working on a campaign to pass legislation similar to or stronger than the Safe Climate Act that some anti-environmental Republicans filibustered this past June.
